Maynard's Jeremy Madow is now a sophomore at Assumption College in Worcester, where he was honored as the cross-country team's Most Valuable Runner earlier this month at the college's student-athlete awards reception.

''Jeremy is one of the toughest and most talented athletes on our squad," said Assumption cross-country and track coach Mark Perrone. ''He is a track standout who has taken his cross-country career to new heights. He is our top cross-country runner and among the best distance people on our track squad."

Madow, who was coached at Maynard High by current Assumption associate track coach Gary Jusseaume, also played soccer and football and was a track All-Star in high school. He was honored in 2003 as the Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week and was named to the conference honor roll on two other occasions. This past cross-country season, he finished first at the Worcester Championships in a meet record time of 29:18 and also qualified for the NCAA regionals for the second consecutive year.

''Jeremy has yet to scratch the surface with regard to reaching his full potential as a runner," said Perrone, ''and with his help, we expect to be among our conference contenders."
