Reach Flight Semifinals at I.T.A Men's Tennis Regional

BLOOMSBURG, PA --- Senior captain MICHAEL GOLDMAN (Worcester, MA/Doherty) won matches over three of the region's Division II elite opponents before finally losing in the semifinal of the A-Flight in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Tennis Championships hosted by Bloomsburg University this weekend.

Freshman STEVE TLUMACKI (Holliston, MA/Holliston) also defeated three top opponents before bowing in the B-Flight.

The Greyhounds, who have won 90 consecutive matches in the dual play in the Northeast-10 Conference, had five players participate in the A-Flight, the elite of Division II players in the East, and as a group won nine matches.

The doubles tandem of junior captain MATT STOPP (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and sophomore RICH LIEBERMAN (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale Ray) won two matches in B-Flight double competition before bowing in the quarterfinal round.

Goldman, ranked No. 7 in the East after last season, rolled past East Stroudsburg junior ADAM FISHER (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) (6-0, 6-1) in the first round and defeated Kutztown, PA freshman LUKAS LABITSCH (Bruck an der Mur, Austria) (6-2, 6-3) in the second round.

He outlasted Concordia, NY senior RODRIGO TEIXEIRA (Sao Paulo, Brazil)-- ranked No. 2 in the region at the end of last season---in a three-set sizzler, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, No. 6 Queens, NY junior WOJ STUCHLIK (Ledziny, Poland) stopped Goldman in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 3-6. Stuchlik also defeated Hounds' sophomore ANTONIO RECALDE (Cuidad del Este, Paraguay/San Isadro Labrador) (1-6, (7-6 (2), 0-6 and junior DAVID MARSHALL (Newington, CT/Kingswood-Oxford), 6-3, 6-1.

Tlumacki, who won his flight at the Northeast Tennis Championships at Brown University (September 19), defeated Philadelphia senior DEREK DEL QUADRO (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) (6-2, 6-3), freshman DANIEL PHILLIPS (Colchester, England) (6-3, 6-4) and Queens, NY junior JIM DELEVANTE (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) (4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0 (9). He was ousted by Dowling, NY junior JAKE SMITH (New York, NY), 3-6, 2-6.
