WORCESTER, Mass. --- Assumption College senior women's lacrosse midfielder captain JENNY MONGEAU (Westboro, MA/Westboro) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America second-team.

Mongeau is the seventh Greyhound student-athlete to have earned national honors more than once following: 1976, 77, Mike Pananos (baseball); 1980, 81, Larry Mehall (baseball); 1986, 87, Jake Lepore (baseball); 1989, 90, Shonda Becker (softball); 1999, 00, 01, Stacy Mattioli (basketball) and 2004, 05 James Newman (tennis, golf). She was named to the third-team in 2005.

She is also a national finalist for an N.C.A.A. post-graduate scholarship. The Greyhounds have had 11 previous scholarship recipients including eight since 1998.

Assumption College has had a total of 21 student-athletes since 1967 named to the CoSIDA academic all-America teams a total of 29 times in five different sports.

Previously, both Mongeau and junior tennis captain and standout MATT STOPP (Altoona, PA/Altoona) were named to their respective ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America At-Large District I Academic Teams.

Mongeau won the 2006 Rev. Armand Desautels, A.A. Memorial Award as the premier female senior student at the College. She earned all-Northeast-10 Conference all-star team honors four times, three times on the first-team. She was recently named to the all-America team as selected by laxpower.com for the second straight year.

She finished her career with 188 goals, 33 assists for 221 points---joining just 33 other student-athletes in N.C.A.A. Division II history with as many as 200 points. Her 188 goals is the 20th-best career total in Division II history. She is the only Greyhound with two 50-goal seasons and three 40-goal seasons and is ranked fourth in Northeast-10 Conference history in goals and fifth in points. She scored 36 goals with three assists for 39 points this past season.

Academically, she earned a Director's Citation from the athletics department for achieving at least a 3.5 grade-point average in each of her eight semesters. She also was on the Northeast-10 Conference and IWLCA all-academic teams in both 2005 and 2006. She was named an IWLCA Division II Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year in 2005 (the 2006 honorees have yet to be announced).

In 2005 she was named to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse second-team, insidelacrosse.com first-team and laxpower.com second-team all-America teams. She won the Assumption College Andrew Laska Award as its female athlete-of-the-year.

She is the daughter of Peter and Patty Mongeau of Westboro, MA. A former two-time Mid-Wachusett League all-star, she earned all-star honors from both the MetroWest News and Worcester Telegram & Gazette while playing for Coach Melissa Callender at Westboro High.

She was graduated from the College summa cum laude in May with a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average as one of rare group of triple majors, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics with a minor in Physics. She has also earned Assumption College Student-Athlete Honor Roll (Director's Citations) along with Dean's List honors in each of her eight semesters. She was one of two keynote speakers (with football captain Chris Grogan) at the Greyhounds Christian-Athlete March this past September.

Mongeau has been accepted at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (Worcester, MA) to pursue a doctorate in Neuroscience and is scheduled to begin her studies this fall.

Stopp, who finished 16-2 at No. 3 singles, is now 47-3 in his accolade-filled career. He also finished 17-1 at No. 2 doubles improving his career mark to an incredible 50-2. He carries a 3.89 grade point average as a Mathematics major.

He has earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) all-academic teams in each of the last two years. Stopp has also been named first-team all-conference in singles and doubles in his three years and currently owns an unblemished conference career doubles record (32-0) and an impressive 31-1 singles record. He has also earned a Director's Citation from the athletics department for achieving at least a 3.5 grade point average in each of his six semesters.

The Hounds have won an impressive 103 consecutive matches against Northeast-10 Conference opposition including 19 straight in postseason play. They have won the conference regular-season and postseason title for eight straight years.
