WORCESTER, Mass. --- Former New England Patriots standout quarterback Steve Grogan will be the featured speaker as Assumption College celebrates its football history, opens its 2005 season and plays its first "home" game in the College's new multi-sports stadium.

The appropriately named "The Night Before" will be a combination celebration of the 38 years of football at the College, a reunion for many of the nearly 950 who have worn the Blue and White, and a chance for all those in attendance to meet the 2005 team members and their parents.

The event is slated for Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lincoln Square in Worcester. Tickets are priced at $100 and are available by calling (508) 767-7559 at the College.

The former Kansas State standout played in 149 games in his 16-year professional career from 1975-90. He is still the Patriots career leader in attempts (3,593), completions (1,879), yards (26,886) and touchdown passes (182). He also rushed for 2,164 yards and scored 35 touchdowns in his career. His 13 rushing touchdowns in 1976 is still a National Football League for quarterbacks.

He also holds the Patriots' single-game record with a 227.8 quarterback rating, which he achieved by completing 13-of-18 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 55-10 win over the New York Jets (September 9, 1979).

He also started for Kansas State University as a junior and senior completing 166-of-371 passes for 2,214 yards and 12 touchdowns

The Greyhounds will host Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College, Saturday, September 3 in the new stadium, in their 2005 season opener. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
