GOLF: Coach Tim Bibaud Wins McCullough Award
October 22, 2004
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Assumption College head golf coach TIM BIBAUD (Worcester, MA) has been selected as the recipient of the 2004 Gordon McCullough Memorial Award. The award is presented each year to a coach for outstanding contributions to college golf.
The McCullough Award is selected annually by fellow coaches in the New England region. The award represents the highest honor afforded a New England college golf coach. Gordon McCullough was the former Director of Athletics and longtime golf coach at the University of Hartford.
Some of the criteria includes: outstanding success of the golf program and exceptional contributions to players, coaches and golf committees at both the local and national levels.
In addition to his Assumption College coaching duties, Bibaud is also the President of the Massachusetts Intercollegiate Golf Association and the Worcester Intercollegiate group. He has served as host coach for several major events including the E.C.A.C. Division II championships and the annual Worcester Collegiate Cup. This is his 10th season with the Greyhounds.
"I am honored and humbled by this award," said Bibaud. "This award is especially special for our program and for the College. To be singled out by one's peers is extremely gratifying and somewhat humbling. I would be remiss if I didn't accept this award in the name of our players."
The Greyhounds are competing in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship in Brewster, MA both Monday and Tuesday.
The team finished third in the recent Northeast-10 Conference championships with junior JEFF FURTADO (Jr., Warwick, RI/Hendricken) capturing medalist honors. The team competed in the 2002 N.C.A.A. regional and is expected to earn a second qualification at the end of the current season.
Bibaud, the son of a former Assumption College basketball player and Hall of Famer, Charlie, is a former standout golfer at the College of the Holy Cross. He captained the Crusaders in his junior and senior years (1980 and 1981). He was instrumental in leading the team to the N.C.A.A. national tournament in 1981.
In high school he was a four-year standout at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, MA and won the prestigious Pioneer Award for golf at graduation.
He majored in pre-legal studies graduating from Holy Cross in 1981. He was graduated from the New England School of Law in 1982 and has served as a prosecutor with the Worcester County District Attorney's office.
He also serves as the head boy's basketball coach at St. Peter-Marian High School in Worcester, MA. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Worcester with three children Alli (18), Patrick (16) and Timothy (9).
