Jason Boyle Named Greyhounds Women's Rowing Coach

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Jason Boyle, a rower with standout teams at the University of California at Berkeley, has been named the head women's rowing coach at Assumption College.

The announcement was made by Ted Paulauskas, Director of Athletics. Boyle replaces Alexandra Kazanovicz, who resigned after two seasons to pursue educational opportunties at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (Worcester, MA).

Boyle rowed at California from 1995-00. As a first-year student-athlete he rowed No. 7 in the freshman eight helping his boat take a gold medal at the San Diego Crew Classic, a silver medal at the PAC-10 finals and a silver medal at the IRA Regatta final. He later helped the junior varsity eight (No. 5 rower) win the Gold Medal at both the San Diego Crew Classic and the PAC-10 finals.

As the No. 3 rower in the men's heavyweight eight he helped his boat take a bronze medal at the IRA regatta finals, a bronze at the PAc-10 finals and a silver at the San Diego Crew Classic. He has also trained with the U.S. National Team.

Boyle coached the freshman team at Berkeley, CA High School from May 1998-January 1999 with a Bronze Medal at the Southwest Regional Junior Rowing Association Championship finals highlighting the season.

He also rowed for the Los Gatos, CA Rowing Club from 1991-95. His heavyweight four boat was a silver medalist at the Southwest Regional Junior Rowing Association Championship finals and a bronze medalist at the U.S. National Youth Championships in Cincinnati, OH.

He also rowed in the eight finals in the Royal Canadian Henley with the West Side Rowing Club of Buffalo, NY. He rowed single sculls (coached by the British National Team) and won a gold medal at the Transvaal Championships.

He has just completed five years in military service with the United States Army and served in Iraqi Freedom II (2004-05), Kosovo (2002-03) and Hungary (2001). He was awarded the Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service durng Operation Iraqi Freedom (2005).

Boyle resides in Shrewsbury.
