Hound cross country seventh at George Mason Invitational

    LEESBURG, Virginia --- Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas) has the top three finishers and four of the top seven en route to winning the George Mason University Invitational Men’s Cross Country Invitational here SATURDAY at Oatlands Plantation.
    Assumption College finished seventh in the otherwise all-Division I event.  Lamar (27) was followed by George Mason (36), American (103), North Carolina Wilmington (107), Campbell (111), Howard (172) and the Greyhounds (208).
    In the women’s event, host George Mason (56) won a very close decision over American (58), Lamar (60), North Carolina Wilmington (73) and Campbell (80).  Howard (176) and the Greyhounds (199) finished behind the pack. 
    Men’s junior captain KYLE HIGGINS (Braintree, MA/Braintree) was the Greyhounds top finisher at 35 with a 27:44 time over the 8k course.  He was followed by freshman MARK MC NEILL (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) at 29:24 (42nd), freshman MICHAEL WESELCOUCH (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale Ray) at 31:43 (45th), sophomore JOHN CONLEY (Andover, MA/Andover) at 32:41 (47th) and freshman ADAM MAILHOT (Ledyard, CT/Ledyard) at 32:52 (48th).
    Women’s junior captain ERYNN SWEENEY (Braintree, MA/Braintree) was 37th at 26:26 over the 6k course, followed by senior captain JESSICA CHMIELEWSKI (Newington, CT/Newington) at 38th (26:57), sophomore CATHY GRIFFIN (Columbia, CT/East Catholic) at 40th (27:14), junior MEGHAN DUCHARME (Dudley, MA/Notre Dame) at 41st (27:57), senior LIZ PENTA (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet) at 43rd (28:34) freshman CHELSIE SEGUIN (Coventry, RI/The Prouty School) at 44th (28:49) and junior KATIE WIRZBICKI (Gardner, MA/Gardner) at 45th (29:12).
