Men (20th), Women (24th) in N.C.A.A. regional cross country

    BOSTON, Mass. --- Assumption College finished 20th of 26 teams in the men’s N.C.A.A. Division II cross country regional held at Franklin Park SUNDAY. The women’s team was 24th of 28 teams.
    UMass Lowell (41 points) was the regional men’s champion followed by Stonehill, Southern Connecticut, American International, Bentley, Adelphi and Saint Rose as the Northeast-10 Conference copped the top seven spots.
    On the women’s side Stonehill (42 points) was the regional champion followed by Saint Rose, Southern Connecticut, Bentley and UMass Lowell as the conference earned the top five places.
    Junior captain KYLE HIGGINS (Braintree, MA/Braintree) was the Greyhounds top performer over the 8k course with a 34:09 time (67th) followed by junior captain CHRIS TRAJKOVSKI (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) (94th, 35:15), junior PATRICK ERBAN (Attleboro, MA/LaSalle Academy) (126th, 36:45), freshman MIKE WESELCOUCH (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale Ray) (148th, 38:24), sophomore JOHN CONLEY (Andover, MA/Andover) (161st, 39:34) and freshman ADAM MAILHOT (Ledyard, CT/Ledyard) (172nd, 41:39).
    For the women, junior captain ERYNN SWEENEY (Braintree, MA/Braintree) (PICTURED RIGHT) was the top finisher in 102nd place (26:08). She was followed by freshman VALERIE JOSEPH (Henniker, NH/John Stark) (112th, 26:28), sophomore CATHERINE GRIFFIN (Columbia, CT/East Catholic) (126th, 36:45), senior captain JESSICA CHMIELEWSKI (Newington, CT/Newington) (130th, 26:55), junior MELISSA HAMBLEY (Canton, CT/Canton) (157th, 28:14), senior LIZ PENTA (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet) (158th, 28:19) and junior KATIE WIRZBICKI (Gardner, MA/Gardner) (160th, 28:35).
