S.N.H.U. stops Greyhound women's soccer, 3-1, on Senior Night

Greyhounds honored their seniors before the game

    WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior midfielder ARIEL TEIXEIRA (Warren, RI/Mount Hope) scored her sixth goal of the season in the first half and Southern New Hampshire University went on to defeat Assumption College, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer game FRIDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
    In the second half, postgraduate midfielder ALYSSA THAYER (Hooksett, NH/Manchester West) scored her second goal of the season in the 59th minute for the Penmen to make it 2-0.
    The Hounds cut the gap in half as freshman midfielder KATIE LYDON (Riverside, RI/East Providence) scored her second goal of the season in a flurry in front of the goal with 14:22 left.  Freshman midfielder JUSTINE DI DONATO (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) was credited with an assist on the play.
    Sophomore midfielder KALEIGH ROBERGE (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) scored her seventh goal on a breakaway with just 5:59 remaining to make it a two-goal cushion.
    Sophomore goalkeeper MAGGIE WELDON (Manchester, NH/Manchester West) made two saves to post win season for the Penmen. Freshman goalkeeper ALLISON BRUDER (Sandy, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) made three saves for the Greyhounds in 70 minutes of work.
    Southern New Hampshire outshot the Greyhounds, 12-6, and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
    At halftime the team honored its senior members with “Senior Medallions” presented by head coach GLENN MELIA and Associate Athletics Director Peter Gardula.  Honored were goalkeeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North), defender/captain KELSEY ABELEIN (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) and defender/captain JANE RICKER (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury).  Postgraduate forward KATIE DI CIOCCIO (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) was alsosaluted in her final game.
    Southern New Hampshire, which has now won five consecutive matches, is 9-6-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the conference.  The Greyhounds are now 4-10-2 overall and 4-9-1 in the conference.
    The Greyhounds conclude their season WEDNESDAY at UMass Lowell at 7 p.m.
