Franklin Pierce stops Hound women's soccer in NE-10 match

    RINDGE, N.H. --- Junior goalkeeper JOCELYN LEON (Lenox, MA/Lenox) made three saves to lead Franklin Pierce University past Assumption College, 5-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer match here SUNDAY.
    The Greyhounds got their goal from junior midfielder GABRIELLE LEAL (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) (PICTURED RIGHT), her first of the season, on a defensive breakdown in front of the net at 64:48.
    Junior midfielder TORI GIKAS (Sydney, Australia/Brigidine College) scored her second goal of the season at 16:17 as the Ravens assumed a 1-0 advantage.  She headed in a free kick from junior midfielder AYA NOGUCHI (Toyko, Japan/Jumonji).
    Senior midfielder SONHA FRANKLIN (Birmingham, England/Loughborough Academy) scored her third goal of the season on a feed from Gikas at 25:11 to make it 2-0 and freshman midfielder MARGRET THOROLFSDOTTIR (Reykjavit, Iceland/Verslunarskig) made it 3-0 at 53:12.
    After Leal scored for the Greyhounds freshman forward JANNICE SUNDQVIST (Hamosand, Sweden/Lugnetgynnasiet Falun) scored her first two collegiate goals to make the final a four-goal advantage.
    Franklin Pierce outshot Assumption 21-8, including 11 shots on goal.
    The Greyhounds, now 1-6-1 and 1-5 in the conference are next in action hosting Merrimack WEDNESDAY at 7 p.m.  Franklin Pierce returns to action SATURDAY hosting UMass Lowell at 4 p.m.
