Meredith, Gibson lead Hound women past New Haven, 77-72

    WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) (PICTURED RIGHT) scored 26 points on 10-for-13 floor accuracy as Assumption College rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat the University of New Haven, 77-72, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball action WEDNESDAY at Laska Gym.  Meredith has now scored 60 points in her last two games!
    Chargers freshman guard AUDREY CUNNINGHAM (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) made two free throws with 10:13 left to lift New Haven to its largest lead, 62-48. The Greyhounds then ran off a 13-0 run to cut the deficit to one (62-61) with 5:55 remaining.  Sophomore guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityville, NY/Copiague) started the run with a layin off a feed from Meredith.  Sophomore forward SABRINA SICILIANO (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludlowe) scored on an inside move fed by freshman point SHANNON RAY (Yonkers, NY/Ursuline Academy, NY), Gibson made a straightaway three-pointer and then scored on a fastbreak to cut the lead to 62-57. Freshman forward JAMIE INSEL (Clinton, NJ/Voorhees) scored inside and Gibson finished a fastbreak both on feeds from senior forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) to make it a one-point game at 62-61.
    New Haven then spurted to again lead by seven points, 68-61 as senior guard YASMIN ITHIER-VICENTY (Newington, CT/Newington) tipped in a rebound with 3:56 left.
    The Greyhounds fought back and when Gibson scored on-the-break on a feed from sophomore point KATY HOWARD (Medway, MA/Medway) the Hounds led by one point (73-72) with 42 seconds left.  Howard and Meredith each made back-to-back free throws in the last 19 seconds to seal it.
    Gibson finished with 13 points, all in the second half, and Siciliano had a double-double 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Griffiths had a stat-filled game with eight points, eight rebounds and six assists.
    Senior guard DOMINIQUE STELLMACHER (New Britain, CT/New Britain) led the Chargers with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Ithier-Vicenty (15 points) and freshman guard ANH-DAO TRAN (Webster, MA/Holy Name) (13 points, five assists) played well in support roles.
    Assumption is now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while New Haven falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
