Hounds volleyball drops two in Philadelphia

    PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Sophomore outside hitter NICOLE WIECHECKI (Wilmington, DE/Ursuline Academy) had seven kills and seven digs to lead Wilmington, DE University past Assumption College, 3-0, in a non-conference women’s volleyball game at Philadelphia Sciences.
    In the second match senior middle blocker CADY RICH (Shelton, CT/Shelton) had nine kills and five blocks to lead Philly Sciences past the Greyhounds, 3-0.
    WILMINGTON: freshman outside hitter LAUREN OSTAFIN (Avon, CT/Avon) led the Greyhounds with seven kills, senior captain/outside hitter AIMEE DRAINVILLE (Rockville, RI/Chariho) added seven kills, and freshman outside hitter MARY JOHNSTON (Pearland, TX/Glenda Dawson) finished with six kills .
    Game scores: Wilmington, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-14.
    Freshman setter KRISTIN FLATEKVAL (Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart) added nine assists, while freshman setter JESS REIMERS (Okemos, MI/Okemos) had 14 assists. Sophomore libero STEPH WHOOTEN (Norton, MABishop Feehan) led all players with 15 digs.

    PHILLY SCIENCES: freshman outside hitter LAUREN OSTAFIN (Avon, CT/Avon) led the Greyhounds with 12 kills, while freshman outside hitter MARY JOHNSTON (Pearland, TX/Glenda Dawson) finished with nine kills and seven digs.
    Game scores: Sciences, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21.
    Freshman setter KRISTIN FLATEKVAL (Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart) added 17 assists, while freshman setter JESS REIMERS (Okemos, MI/Okemos) had 10 assists. Sophomore libero STEPH WHOOTEN (Norton, MABishop Feehan) led all players with 16 digs.

    The Greyhounds are now 6-8 overall and are next in action at Saint Rose WEDNESDAY at 7 p.m. Sciences is now 4-1 and Wilmington 5-6.
