Jusseaume standout in Smith Invitational track
HOLYOKE, Mass. -- Junior PETER
JUSSEAUME (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) won the 600-meter
event and freshman WILLIAM GAZLAY (North
Stonington, CT/Saint Bernard) (PICTURED RIGHT) finished
second in the high jump and ninth in the long jump to lead the
Assumption College men’s track team in its season’s
indoor opener SATURDAY at the Smith College Invitational.
Jusseaume ran his event in team-record 1:24.02,
while Gazlay jumped six feet to take second in the high jump and
19-feet 2.75 inches to claim ninth in the long jump. He also
finished 15th in the 55-meter dash preliminary (7.15).
Jusseaume's new mark bettered the old mark of 1:34.63 set by Ryan
Brennan in the Wesleyan Invitational (1/31/04) and the Smith
Invitational (2-8/03).
Freshman MICHAEL AGBORTOKO
(Southbridge, MA/Southbridge) was fourteenth in the 55-meter dash
prelim (7.09), while junior NICK SAINT JEAN (East
Killingly, CT/Killingly) was seventeenth (7.25) and junior
JEREMIAH REILLY (Greenville, RI/LaSalle Academy)
was twenty-fourth (7.68).
Sophomore BRADLEY CARD
(Worcester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) was fourth in the 55-meter
hurdles (9.79), Agbortoko waas eighteenth in the 200 meter event
(25.35), while Reilly (26.74) and Card (26.79) were 30th and
31st.
Freshman BREANA RANNAZZISI
(Oakville, CT/Holy Cross) was sixteenth in the long jump (13-feet,
9.50 inches) and fifteenth in the 55-meter dash prelim
(8.29). Sophomore LILIANA JORGE (Warwick,
RI/Pilgrim) was seventh in the 55-meter hurdle final after running
sixth in the prelim.
Freshman BRITTANY COWEE (Old
Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme) was seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:07.56)
and eleventh in the 200-meter dash (29.46)
The Greyhounds are off until the January 22
when they compete in the Wesleyan University Invitational.
