Unbeaten Saint Rose stops Hounds hoop in NE-10 game

    ALBANY, N.Y. ---Junior guard ROB GUTIERREZ (Brooklyn, NY/John Adams) scored 24 points and added nine rebounds to lead the unbeaten College of Saint Rose past Assumption College, 90-64, in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams here WEDNESDAY night at the Nolan Gym.
    Saint Rose (now 3-0, 1-0) had opened its season this past weekend with wins over Dominican (81-73) and Holy Family (96-69). The Greyhounds (now 2-1, 0-1), meanwhile, won both of their games in Bridgeport Mixer over host Bridgeport (79-62) and Chestnut Hill, NJ (88-80).
    The Greyhounds were led by senior forward/captain TOBIN HAASE (Southold, NY/Ridgewood, NJ) (PICTURED RIGHT) who finished with 15 points, while sophomore forward RONSON QUICK (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added 12 points and five rebounds.
    Also reaching double figures for the Golden Knights were sophomore guard ANDREW POPE (White Plains, NY/Iona Prep) (15 points, eight rebounds), junior forward BRIAN HANUSCHAK (Cumberland, RI/Saint Andrew’s) (12 points, nine rebounds) and freshman center DOMINYKAS MILKA (Queens, NY/Christ the King) (12 points, nine rebounds).
    Neither team shot well in the first half as the Greyhounds (10-for-31) finished at .323 and just two-of-12 from three-point range. Saint Rose however was worse at 10-for-36 (.278) and just one-of-nine (.111) from three-point range. The Golden Knights used a 29-20 advantage in rebounding with 13 on the offensive glass (12-2 advantage in second-chance points) and a 16-for-19 performance at the free throw line to move to a 37 28 halftime lead.
    Gutierrez led the Knights with 10 points in the first half, while Hanuschak added eight points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard CORY SCHMIDT (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) led the Hounds with seven points,
    The Greyhounds are next in action at the Palm Beach Atlantic University Mixer in Florida. They play host Palm Beach Atlantic FRIDAY and Eckerd SATURDAY.
