Baldarelli leads men's hoop past Quebec/Montreal in exhibition

    WORCESTER, Mass. ---  Senior forward MIKE BALDARELLI (Sutton, MA/Holy Name) scored 20 points on eight-for-11 floor accuracy as Assumption College defeated the University of Quebec at Montreal, 82-69, in men’s exhibition basketball FRIDAY at the Laska Gym.
    Playing well in support roles were sophomore guard BOBBY HARRIS (Berlin, MA/Eastern Regional) (PICTURED RIGHT) (12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) and junior guard KEVIN DONAHUE (Pawcatuck, CT/Stonington) (11 points on five-for-eight shooting).
    For the UQAM Citidins, junior guard ERIC COTE-KOUGNIMA (Montreal, Que./Sherbrooke) (10 points) and freshman guard ALEXANDRE BERNARD (Gatineau, Que./Outaoiais) (10 points,
5 steals) reached double figures.
    Baldarelli got the Hounds off in the first half with 10 points including a three-point play with 12:16 left to give his team a 16-point advantage at 22-6.  The Greyhounds led by nine at the break (37-28) as VINCENT LANCTOT-FORTIER (Montreal, Que./Montmorency) cashed a layin at the buzzer.
    The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 17-4 run to move to a 22-point edge (54-32) as Harris made a backdoor layup on a feed from junior point RYAN ROZSNAKI (Montreal, Que./Landstown, VA).  Two hoops from sophomore forward RONSON QUICK (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and an 8-0 run by Baldarelli keyed the outburst.
    A layin by junior center CHRISTIAN MOORE (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) on a feed from sophomore guard MIKE AURIEMMA (Manchester, CT/East Catholic/Hun School) made it 67-40 with 9:47 remaining---the largest lead of the game.
    The Hounds shot a creditable .507 from the field (34-67) and limited the Citidins to .419 accuracy (26-for-62).  Assumption owned the board by a 50-23 advantage including 19 on the offensive glass as Moore (9) and junior forward TIM BEINERT (Bellerose Village, NY/Holy Cross) (7) led the way.
    The Greyhounds continue their exhibition season MONDAY when the play at crosstown rival Holy Cross at 7 p.m.  They open their regular-season Saturday and Sunday at the University of Bridgeport Tournament.  They play host Bridgeport Saturday at 3 p.m. and face off against Chestnut Hill, NJ on Sunday at 1 p.m.
