Balanced Greyhounds rally past Franklin Pierce, 86-72

WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Greyhounds of Assumption College defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 86-72 WEDNESDAY evening here at the Laska Gym. A balanced Assumption offense saw four Greyhounds score exactly 14 points, with two more scoring in double digits. Senior forward MIKE BALDARELLI (Sutton, MA/Holy Name) led the Hounds with 14 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, and four steals. Senior forward TOBIN HAASE (Southold, NY/Ridgewood) had 14 points and a career-high four blocks.
For the Ravens, sophomore guard NIGEL VAN OOSTRUM (Sheffield, England/Mercersburg Prep) had 15 points on six of eight shooting. Senior guard JEFF MANCHESTER (Gorham, ME/Gorham) had 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard DAYSHAWN LONG (New York, NY/Thurgood Marshall) had 12 points, and senior guard KINARD DOZIER (Dedham, MA/The Winchendon School) had 10 points, six rebounds, four assist and four steals.
The game featured many remarkable swings. In the first half, Greyhounds led by as many as 17, taking a 40-23 lead off a layup by Haase with 1:51 to go in the period. A buzzer-beating three pointer by Van Oostrum would cut the lead to twelve going into halftime. The Ravens outplayed the Hounds at the start of the second half, chiseling down the Assumption lead before finally going ahead off a jumper by freshman center MATT BARBOZA (East Providence, RI/Bishop Hendricken) with 8:53 left in the game, 56-58. The Greyhounds would recover, however, scoring nine straight points and outscoring the Ravens for the rest of the game, 30-16.
