Bentley stops Greyhound field hockey in overtime

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior midfielder
STEPHANIE SIDERIS (Watertown, MA/Waltham) scored
1:52 into overtime off a penalty corner as Bentley University
defeated Assumption College, 4-3, in a non-conference field hockey
match WEDNESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Bentley opened the scoring just 9:56 into the
first half as junior midfielder TORI BERGANTINO
(Waltham, MA/Waltham) scored her third goal of the season off a
feed from sophomore midfielder KELSEY MATTSON
(Bristol, NH/Newfound).
Seven minutes later the Greyhounds tied the
game as sophomore midfielder BRITT ALLEN (Lincoln,
RI/Lincoln) scored off a corner feed from freshman defender
BETHANY ROCHA (Lakeville, MA/Bishop Stang).
The Greyhounds then got two goals from junior
midfielder AMANDA WHALEY (North Kingstown,
RI/North Kingstown) at 41:56 and 53:57 to take a 3-1 lead.
Junior midfielder MEG DOW (West Bridgewater,
MA/West Bridgewater) and senior forward BRITTANY
BOYLE (Grafton, MA/Grafton) assisted on the goals which
both came on penalty corners.
Senior foward HALEY SMITH
(Georgetown, MA/Georgetown) scored in a flurry in front of the goal
and sophomore forward BETH MAGUIRE (Medfield,
MA/Medfield) scored on a long blast from the right side to tie the
game for the Falcons at 62:18.
Senior goalkeeper DANIELLE
LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made eight saves for the
Greyhounds, while sophomore keeper JULIA POWELL
(Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) made no saves for the Falcons.
Bentley outshot the Greyhounds (23-7) and had a
14-10 advantage in penalty corners.
Bentley is now 6-9 overall while the Greyhounds
fall to 0-14. Assumption is next in action SATURDAY at Saint
Michael’s College at 3:30 p.m.
