A.I.C. defeats Greyhound football on Senior Day
American International 35, Assumption 10
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior quarterback
ROB PARENT (West Warwick, RI/West Warwick)
completed 23-for-33 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns as
American International College defeated Assumption College, 35-10,
in a Northeast-10 Conference football game SATURDAY at the
Multi-Sport Stadium.
Prior to the game the Greyhounds celebrated
Senior Day as 21 senior student-athletes were honored by head coach
CORY BAILEY and Associate Athletics Director
PETER GARDULA.
Sophomore running back MIKE
MAYO (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) played well in a support
role with 15 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, while junior
wide receiver ANDRE SAMUELS (Linden, NJ/Linden)
finished with eight catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
For the Greyhounds, senior running back
HERBERT WOODARD (Salem, NJ/Salem) rushed for just
61 yards but it was enough to make him the first player in team
history to rush for more than 1,000 yards twice in a career.
He finished with 1,175 yards in 2009 and this year ended with 1,004
yards. For his career he ended with 780 carries for 3,695
yards, both career records. He also set career marks with 42
touchdowns and 258 points.
Senior quarterback ANDREW
KUPEC (Wyckoff NJ/Indian Hills) completed 17-of-32 passes
for 154 yards and a touchdown. He finished with 240
completions in 411 attempts for 2,657 yards and 22 touchdowns . . .
all season marks.
The Greyhounds took the lead driving 70 yards
in 15 plays climzed by a junior BRIAN NOWAK
(Wayland, MA/Wayland) 28-yard field goal. Kupec completed
five passes in march including a 20-yarder to sophomore tight end
SEAN DAIGLE (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) and another
to senior tight end ERIC SCHINDLER (Kenilworth,
NJ/David Brearley) for 15 yards. Nowak finished the season
with a team-record and conference-leading 12-of-16 field goals.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead with 6:39 left
in the half driving 72 yards in 13 plays. Parent found
Samuels on a nine yard slant for the scored and senior placekicker
RYAN BROOKS-NEWTON (Selkirk, NY/Bishop Maginn)
kicked the conversion for a 7-3 lead.
Senior returner DAVON LE GRIER
(Paterson, NJ/Eastside) set up the Jackets’ second score with
a 30-yard punt return to the Assumption 49. Parent completed
six-of-six on the drive including a 20-yarder to junior wide
receiver AARON FLYTHE (Dorchester,
MA/Dorchester). Parent rewarded LeGrier for the punt return
with a nine-yard touchdown pass with just 11 seconds left in the
half. Brooks-Newton kicked the conversion for a 14-3 halftime
advantage.
In the third period Parent found junior tight
end TREVOR PERRYMAN (Centereach, NY/Newfield) on a
19-yard touchdown pass, Mayo scampered 14 yards for a fourth perio
scored and Samuels grabbed a six-yarder for another wit 1:51
remaining as the Yellow Jackets built a 35-3 lead.
The Greyhounds drove in the final two minutes
for their only score of the game.
Senior running back LANCE
MITCHELL (Boynton Beach, FL/Pope John Paul II) started the
eight-play, 54-yard drive with a 14-yard run off-left tackle.
Kupec found senior wide receiver MARCUS NICHOLS
(Salem, NJ/Salem) for 17 yards to the nine and then hit Schindler
for the score in the back of the endzone for the touchdown.
Nowak’s season-record 32nd straight conversion made it a
35-10 final.

DILLINGER (Naples, FL/Saint John Neumann) (5-4--9) and
sophomore linebacker MATT MARTINO (Lincroft,
NJ/Middletown South) (3-6--9) were the leading tacklers for the
Greyhounds . . . sophomore wide receiver PAUL
PEREZ (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian, NY) was the Hounds leading
receiver with six receptions for 39 yards . . . the Hounds finished
6-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference, while A.I.C. finished 6-4
