Lauren Keating shuts out Southern Connecticut, 2-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior goalkeeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) recorded her second shutout of the season leading the Assumption College women's soccer team past Southern Connecticut State University, 2-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference game WEDNESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The Greyhounds are now 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Keating has now shutout both conference members from New Haven, Connecticut, having stopped the University of New Haven (1-0) September 8. Southern Connecticut is now 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Junior midfielder KELSEY ABELEIN (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) scored the first goal for the Greyhounds in the 17th minute (16:26) on a feed from senior defender KATIE DI CIOCCIO (Wappingers Falls, NY/Ketcham). It was Abelein's first goal of the season.
Freshman defender MOLLY KESSLER (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) scored an insurance goal for the Greyhounds, her first career goal, at 85:17 on an unassisted play.
The teams had seven shots apiece, while the Greyhounds owned a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Assumption is next in action when it hosts conference rival University of Massachusetts Lowell SATURDAY at 4 p.m., while Southern Connecticut, which had a two-game win streak ended hosts Saint Michael's College in another conference game SATURDAY at 1 p.m.
