Dowling stops Greyhound women's soccer, 2-1, in overtime non-conference match

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior forward VANESSA MOREIRA (Selden, NY/Newfield) scored 3:55 into overtime as Dowling College defeated Assumption College, 2-1, in a non-conference soccer match SATURDAY in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Moreira's game-winner capped a three-on-one break for the Golden Lions as freshman midfielder RACHEL NELSON (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks) assisted on the play.
The Greyhounds had just tied the game at the 89:30 mark as senior midfielder/captain KELLEY DE WALT (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) scored on a free kick.
Freshman forward ALEXIS PARROTTA (Centerreach, NY/Centerreach) scored to make it 1-0 Dowling at 85:58 on a feed from Moreira.
Dowling outshot the Greyhounds, 7-4, in the defensive struggle and had all three corner kicks in the game.
Junior goalkeeper ALICIA COMMISSO (Floral Park, NY/Sewanhaka) made two saves for the Golden Lions, while Hounds junior goalkeeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) made four saves.
The Greyhounds are next in action WEDNESDAY when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State at 7 p.m.
