Saint Anselm stops Assumption women's soccer, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference opener

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward JENNIFER PEARL (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and made it stand up as Saint Anselm College evened its record with a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer victory over Assumption College here WEDNESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Stoughton scored the goal at the 19:35 mark of the half on a feed from freshman back KELLI DUGGAN (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames).

Junior goalkeeper JACQUELINE COONEY (Braintree, MA/Braintree) made two saves to post the victory for the Hawks, while junior LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) made two saves for the Greyhounds.

Assumption College outshot the Hawks, 7-4, in the defensive struggle. The Hawks held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Greyhounds are now 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Saint Anselm moves to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Greyhounds travel to Merrimack College SATURDAY for a 1:30 p.m. start in another conference game, while the Hawks host Southern Connecticut State at 12 noon.
