Saint Michael's defeats Greyhounds women's lacrosse

COLCHESTER, Vt. --- Sophomore attack SPENSER WOLFE (West Newbury, MA/Governors Academy) scored five goals as Saint Michael's College defeated Assumption College, 19-9, in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action here Saturday.
The Greyhounds got two goals each from senior midfielder EMILY MORRELL (Bethany, CT/Amity) and freshman midfielder STEPH O'ROURKE (Amherst, NH/Souhegan).
Wolfe opened the scoring for the Purple Knights with a goal just 3:42 into the first half. Just 15 seconds later the Hounds tied the game as junior midfielder ERIN THERIAULT (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) scored her 14th goal of the season from sophomore attack DANIELLE D'AMICO (Johnston, RI/LaSalle).
The Knights went back in front (2-1) as sophomore attack ELIZA SCOBA (Franklin, MA/Franklin) and then D'Amico scored her ninth of the season unassisted to tie it at 2-2. Saint Michael's then ran off the next nine goals before the Hounds scored four times in the final 1:49 to make it 11-6 at the break.
Sophomore midfielder ELAINE BOWMAN (West Hartford, CT/Conard) (1:49), Morrell (1:01), and O'Rourke twice (0:43 and 0:10) scored for the Hounds.
Saint Michael's dominated the second half 8-3. The Greyhounds however got goals from sophomore attack STEF PAGONIS (Leicester, MA/Worcester Academy), sophomore attack PAIGE DE LUCCA (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) and Morrell.
Sophomore MARY KING (Waltham, MA/Waltham) made eight saves for the Greyhounds, while sophomore goalkeeper SANDRA PALUMBO (Guilford, CT/Guilford) had nine for the Knights. Saint Michael's outshot the Greyhounds, 39-35.
Saint Michael's is now 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Greyhounds are 1-8 and 0-7. Assumption is at conference rival Stonehill College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
