ALBANY, N.Y. --- Sophomore guard ASHLEY RATH (Victor, NY/Victor) scored 15 points to lead three double-figure scorers as the College of Saint Rose rallied to defeat Assumption College, 60-47, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball here Wednesday at the Nolan Gymnasium.
Sophomore forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) (12 points, seven rebounds) and senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (11 points, five rebounds) stood out for the Greyhounds. Freshman guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityville, NY/Copiague) chipped in with nine points.
Sharing the spotlight for the Golden Knights were sophomore forward ALI JOHNSON (Falls Church, VA/George C. Marshall) and senior guard ELIZABETH BUCKLEY (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme), each of whom scored 13 points.
The Greyhounds led 28-26 at the half behind tenacious defense holding the Knights to .333 floor accuracy on 10-for-30 shooting. The Greyhounds jumped to a quick 10-2 lead as Gibson (four points) led the way and had the advantage up to 10 points at 22-12 with 9:16 remaining as junior forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) hit a jumper in the paint. Saint Rose outscored the Greyhounds 14-6 over the last nine minutes to cut the deficit to two points.
When Rath converted a layin with 14:29 left in the game the Knights took the lead 36-35 for the first time. The Greyhounds tied the game twice at 39-39 on a layin by Meredith and finally at 42-42 on a three-pointer by Griffiths with 10:08 left. The Knights' Buckley then hit a top-of-the-circle three-pointer to put the Knights in front to stay at 45-42 and Saint Rose finished the game on a 18-5 mini-run.
Assumption is now 11-10 overall and 8-8 in the conference, while the Golden Knights advance to 11-10 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Greyhounds are next in action Saturday when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University at the Laska Gym. Tapoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
