Molly Griffiths (26 points) lights up Saint Michael's

Assumption 64, Saint Michael's 44

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Walpole) scored a season- and career-high 26 points and added 11 rebounds to lead Assumption College past Saint Michael's College, 64-44, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action Saturday at the Laska Gym.

Freshman guard KATY HOWARD (Medway, MA/Medway) added 11 points and four assists in a solid performance for the Greyhounds. Assumption is now 10-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

Senior guard ALEXIS KELLER (Harrington Park, NJ/Old Tappan) (16 points) and junior forward LOGAN PINTKA (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) (13 points) led Saint Michaels, now 5-11 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

In a game of literally two halves the Greyhounds shot 32.1 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed 25-22. In the second half they blistered the nets at a 62.5 percent clip and limited the Purple Knights to just 20.0 percent (four-for-20).

The Purple Knights zipped to a quick 10-0 lead as Pintka personally took charge with four hoops in the streak. With Saint Michael's leading 22-12 the Greyhounds came back into contention. Senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, MA/Sanford) made one of two free throw attempts and then Griffiths went to work with a baseline jumper, a top-of-the-circle three-pointer and a wing jumper to cut it to 22-20.

Howard tied the game with a foul line jumper before the Knights Keller drilled a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer to make it 25-22 Saint Michael???????s at the half.

Griffiths scored on a layup to start the secnd half and then made one-of-two free throws to tie the game at 25-25 with 18:21 left. The Greyhounds then scored eight of the next 10 points to move to a 33-27 advantage as sophomore forward KELLEY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) contributed a pair of hoops.

Leading 40-34 the Greyhounds then went on a 12-2 run to decide the game capped by a long three-pointer by Griffiths with 5:27 left.

The Greyhounds are next in action Tuesday when they travel to conference rival Saint Anselm College for a 5:30 p.m. tapoff. Saint Michael's hosts American International also at 5:30 p.m.
