Meredith keys Hound women past Le Moyne on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) scored 23 points on 10-for-12 floor accuracy to lead Assumption College past Le Moyne College, 77-63, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action Saturday at the Laska Gym.

Senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (15 points) and junior forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) (15 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots) played well in support roles for the Greyhounds.

Senior guard MUFFY SADLER (Cedar Rapids, IA/John F. Kennedy) (14 points), sophomore forward BRANDY WANGELIN (Olean, NY/Olean) (14 points, 11 rebounds) and junior guard DANIELLE FELICE (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) (12 points, six assists) led the Dolphins.

The Greyhounds are now 15-11 overall and 12-9 in conference play and are currently tied for sixth-place in the conference standings with UMass Lowell. They have clinched a first-round home game against a still-to-be-determined opponent. Le Moyne is now 7-19 overaall and 4-17 in the conference. The Greyhounds swept the two-game season series having won 68-63 at Syracuse, NY December 5.

The Greyhounds moved to a 35-31 halftime advantage. While Le Moyne led early in the period a pair of layins by Meredith on feeds from freshman guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityville, NY/Copiague) tied the game and put the home team in front 15-13 with 11:55 left. When Griffiths drilled a wing three pointer with 4:58 left the Hounds had control leading 33-20. Le Moyne scored the final six points of the period as Sadler hit a pair of free throws, Wangelin an inside move and freshman forward EMILY BAYLY (Schenectady, NY/Niskayuna) converted inside to make it a four-point game. Meredith finished the half five-for-five and 12 points in 12 minutes of action, while Wangelin had 10 points on five-for-six accuracy for the Dolphins.

The Hounds controlled the second half and extended its lead to 18 points, 73 55, with 3:25 remaining as Parker converted a pair of free throws.

Before the game the team recognized the six seniors with the program including guard/captain AMANDA SHEEHY (Linden, NJ/Roselle Catholic), guard JACKIE BRANCA (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson), guard MEG COOK (Braintree, MA/Braintree), guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret, CT/Woodstock Academy), forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) and student assistant COURTNEY STRATTON (Hudson, NH/Alvirne). Head Coach KERRY PHAYRE and Director of Athletics TED PAULAUSKAS presented each with a Senior Medallion.

The Greyhounds will conclude their regular season at Southern Connecticut Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Le Moyne hosts the College of Saint Rose also on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
