Bentley stops Greyhound women's hoop in overtime

WALTHAM, Mass. --- Junior guard KIM BRENNAN (Locust Valley, NY/Locust Valley) scored 22 points to lead three double figure scorers as Bentley University won its fifth straight game, 79-69, in overtime in Northeast-10 Conference womens basketball Saturday at the Dana Center.
The Greyhounds got a career-best 25 points from sophomore forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin). Also in double figures for Assumption College were freshman guard KATY HOWARD (Medway, MA/Medway) (15 points) and senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (10 points, nine rebounds).
Sophomore guard KATHERINE GOODWIN (Goffstown, NH/Governors Academy) (13 points) and senior forward COLETTE JOSEY (Boston, MA/Framingham) (10 points, 11 rebounds) were also in double-figures for the Falcons.
The Greyhounds led by Meredith's 15 points led at the halftime break, 31-30. They got out of the gate quickly moving to a 14-2 advantage as Meredith finished the mini-spurt with five straight points.
Sophomore guard LAUREN MASSIE (Fairfax Station, VA/West Springfield) tied the game for Bentley with a layup off the fastbreak at 38-38 with 15:41 remaining. They led 68-64 after Brennan made two free throws with 29 seconds left. Joward drilled a three-pointer to make it 68-67 before Brennan made one-of-two at the line for a two-point lead. Freshman guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityville, NY/Copiague) drilled a lane jumper with four seconds left to send the game into overtime. Bentley however outscored the Greyhounds, 10-0, in the extra session to win.
The Greyhounds are now 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while the Falcons are now 11-5 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Assumption is at No. 1 ranked Franklin Pierce Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
