Saint Anselm stops Greyhound women's hoop, 62-53

GOFFSTOWN, NH --- Sophomore guard EPIPHANY SMITH (Springdale, AR) scored 22 points to lead Saint Anselm College past Assumption College, 62-53, in Northeast-10 Conference womens basketball game Tuesday at the Stoutenburg Gymnasium.

The Greyhounds sped to a 29-18 halftime advantage as senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (eight points) and freshman guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityvlle, NY/Copiague) (seven points) led the offense. Defensively the Greyhounds limited the Hawks to seven-for-23 floor accuracy (.300). Smith led the Hawks with nine first-half points.

The second half however was a different story as the Hawks rallied to post the victory behind a variety of switching defenses. The Hawks outscored the Greyhounds, 44-24, and limited them to a 10-for-29 floor accuracy (.345) and just two-for-14 (.143) from three-point territory.

The Greyhounds had three double-figure scorers as Gibson (14 points), freshman guard KATY HOWARD (Medway, MA/Medway) (13 points) and Parker (10 points) led the way. Junior forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline) led the Greyhounds with nine rebounds.

For Saint Anselm senior forward COURTNEY MAY (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet) finished with 12 points and a team-leading eight rebounds in a support role.

The Greyhounds are now 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the conference, while Saint Anselm is now 8-11 and 5-9. The Greyhounds are next in action Saturday when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire University. Tapoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Laska Gym.
