Drainville paces Greyhounds past Saint Anselm on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior middle hitter AIMEE DRAINVILLE (Rockville, RI/Chariho) had 21 kills and senior setter KELLY BLUMENAUER (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) added 39 assists as Assumption College defeated Saint Anselm College, 3-2, in a Northeast-10 Conference womens volleyball marathon match SUNDAY at the Laska Gym.
The Greyhounds prevailed 18-16 in the fifth-game tiebreaker as Drainville paced the way with four kills and two blocks.
Freshman libero STEPH WHOOTEN (Norton, MA/Bishop Feehan) had a season-high 27 digs and senior outside hitter JESSICA HALLER (Meriden, CT/Maloney) added 22 digs as the Greyhounds had a season-best 101 for the match.
Game scores for the match had the Greyhounds winning game one (25-21), game three (25-22), while the Hawks prevailed in game two (25-21) and game four (25-22).
Sophomore outside hitter CHARLOTTE TENCZAR (Greenfield, MA/Deerfield Academy) (14 kills, 20 digs) and junior middle blocker STEPHANIE DEVLIN (Beverly, MA/Masconomet) (13 kills, 4.5 blocks, 3 service aces) played well for the visiting Hawks.
Before the match the Greyhounds presented medallions to seniors. Blumenauer, Haller and outside hitter COURTNEY STRATTON (Hudson, NH/Alvirne) were singled out.
The Greyhounds, now 2-18 overall and 1-12 in the conference host Merrimack College THURSDAY in the season finale at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm is now 5-16 overall and 1-11 in the conference.
