Higgins, Griffin Hound standouts in Worcester track

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore KYLE HIGGINS (Braintree, MA/Braintree) turned in his second-best career time in the steeplechase to finish second to highlight Assumption College men's individual results in the Worcester City Outdoor Track Championships Saturday at WPI.

On the women side, freshmen CATHERINE GRIFFIN (Columbia, CT/East Catholic) finished third in the 5,000-meter event with a career best 21:07.55 time and MOLLY KESSLER (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) was fourth in the 1,500-meters with a career-best 5:02.31 time.

The Greyhounds finished sixth among nine teams on the men's side, while the women were eighth among 11 teams.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: sophomore PATRICK ERBAN (Attleboro, MA/LaSalle Academy) turned in a second-best career time in the steeplechase (11:19.90) . . . senior CORRY FARRAND (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) turned in a second-best throw to take sixth in the javelin (140-01) . . . senior BERNARD SCOTT (Saint Petersburg, FL/Admiral Farragut), the Hounds premier indoor sprinter, was third in the 100-meters (11.19) . . . and senior CHRIS O'DAY (Braintree, MA/Braintree) turned in a 2:01.89 to finish eighth in the 800 meters.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: freshman CAITLIN PAULIN (Agawam, MA/Agawam) was seventh in high jump (4-07) and 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in a career best 19.72 time . . . freshman LILY JORGE (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) had a career-best fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.26) and a career-best ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.21) . . .
