Greyhound softball sweeps past Hannibal-LaGrange

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Sophomore righthander JENNIFER LOWREY (Assonet, MA/Apponequet pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out nine as Assumption College defeated Hannibal-LaGrange College (Hannibal, Missouri), 6-0, in the first game of a softball doubleheader here Wednesday.

Sophomore righthander CASEY HALAJIAN (Quincy, MA/Archbishop Williams) with relief help from sophomore CHELSEA DURSO (Salem, NH/Salem) defeated the Trojans, 3-2, in the second game.

In the opener, freshman leftfielder BRENNA MORRISSEY (Salem, NH/Lawrence Academy), freshman second baseman LAUREN MEDEIROS (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) and senior catcher ERIN MURPHY (Sarasota, FL/Cardinal Mooney) each had three hits to backbone the Greyhound 12-hit attack.

Medeiros opened the scoring for the Greyhounds with an RBI single in the first inning and Morrissey made it 2-0 in the fifth inning with another RBI single. They scored twice each in the sixth and seventh for insurance.

Murphy's RBI single and junior rightfielder BERNADETTE FUENTES (Hicksville, NY/Holy Trinity) RBI fielders choice were crucial in the fifth and Medeiros hammered a two-run homer in the seventh.

In game two, Medeiros knocked in all three runs for the Greyhounds with a two-run first-inning single and an RBI double in the second inning.
