Sixth-ranked SNHU stops Greyhounds men's soccer, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward ADRIAN SCHIPPERS (Ashby, MA/Cushing Academy) had a goal and an assist for the No. 6 ranked Southern New Hampshire men's soccer team as they defeated Assumption College, 2-1, Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference match at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The Penmen, winners of their last five and unbeaten in their last 10 games (9-0-1), improved their record to 7-0-1 within the NE-10 and 10-1-1 overall. The Greyhounds fall to 7-4 overall with a 4-3 mark within the conference.
Schippers scored the first goal for the Penmen, his team-leading eighth of the season, in the 27th minute, as he collected the ball off of a save of an initial shot by sophomore midfielder ETHAN LAPIERRE (Manchester, NH/Memorial). Lapierre was credited with an assist.
The second Penmen goal was scored by senior midfielder MARC GOULET (Plainville, CT/Plainville) on a feed from Schippers in the 51st minute. The blast from the top of the box was Goulet's second goal of the season.
The shutout bid ended as junior forward STEVE BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) scored off a PAT LINDBERG (Holliston, MA/Holliston) feed with just over nine minutes to play in the second half.
Penmen postgraduate goalkeeper SEAN LAMBERT (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth) made three saves, while Greyhound junior keeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic's) turned aside seven shots. Southern New Hampshire outshot Assumption 12-11.
The Greyhounds are next in action TUESDAY when they host the College of Saint Rose at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire is at Saint Michael's College next Saturday for a 3 p.m. start.
