Greyhounds mens soccer stops Merrimack, 2-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior goalkeeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) made seven saves to post his fifth shutout of the season as Assumption College defeated Merrimack College, 2-0, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action WEDNESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Junior forward STEVE BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) scored his 10th goal of the season---the third player in the conference at that level---at 31:40 as junior defender GREG ANDERSON (Farmington, CT/Farmington) and freshman midfielder TOM CARROLL (Belford, NJ/Middletown North) assisted.

Freshman forward DOM MONDI (Peabody, MA/Peabody) scored and insurance goal at 69:34 converting a pass from sophomore midfielder SCOTT BUCKHOLZ (Seymour, CT/Seymour) with a blast into the left corner of the net.

The Greyhounds are now 8-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the Northeast-10 and have now moved into a tie for fourth place in the standing with Southern Connecticut and Bentley---all have 16 points. Merrimack is now 7 5-1 overall and 5-3 in conference action (15 points) having its three-game win streak snapped. The conference playoffs involve the top eight teams on November 1, 4 and 7.

The Warriors outshot Assumption 13-10, while the Hounds and held an 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Merrimack goalies, junior KEVIN JOYCE (Mansfield, MA/Bishop Feehan) and senior DOUG CARVALHO (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) made just one save in net.

The Greyhounds are next in action SATURDAY when they host Bentley University in another Northeast-10 Conference game at 12 noon. The team will honor its seniors with special medallions before the game. Merrimack hosts Le Moyne, also Saturday, at 5 p.m.
