Franklin Pierce stops Greyhound men's soccer, 1-0, in regular-season final, Hounds await playoffs

RINDGE, NH --- Sophomore forward DIEGO TABARES (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) scored the lone goal and sophomore VINNY PAPAGEORGIOU (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington) posted the save as Franklin Pierce University defeated Assumption College, 1-0, in the regular season Northeast-10 Conference finale for both teams here SATURDAY at Sodexho Field.
The Ravens concluded their regular season unbeaten in their last eight matches (7-0-1), while improving to 12-3-2 overall and 10-2-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds are now 9-6-2 overall and 6-5-2 in the conference.
Both teams are headed to the conference postseason and could very well meet back in Rindge, NH Sunday, November 1.
Tabares gave the Ravens all the offense they needed in the 31st minute when he sent home a cross pass in front of the net for his sixth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder PAUL LATIF (Newcastle, England/Heaton Manor) set up the goal with a cross pass to record the assist.
Hounds junior goalkeeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) played well making six saves for Assumption. His goals-against average is still a stingy 0.82. His scoreless streak ended at 344:32---having shut out Merrimack (2-0), Bentley (0-0) and Stonehill (1-0) in his last three starts.
Franklin Pierce outshot the Greyhounds, 10-3.
