Assumption, Bentley battle to 0-0 double-overtime tie; Sullivan gets seventh shutout

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior goalkeeper BRANDAN SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) made six saves to post his team-record seventh shutout of the season (14th career) as Assumption College played a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Bentley University in Northeast 10 Conference men's soccer action SATURDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Before the game the Greyhounds saluted their seniors as Coach JEREMY BONOMO and Associate Athletics Director PETER GARDULA presented medalions to defender AUSTIN PRETE (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury), defender DOUG STARBIRD (Dunstable, MA/Groton-Dunstable), midfielder ALEX CHUPKA (Douglas, MA/Douglas) and midfielder MARTIN MELANDEZ COOPER (Waterford, CT/Waterford).
The Greyhounds are now 8-5-2 overall and 5-4-2 (17 points) in conference play, while Bentley is 5-7-2 overall and 5-3-2 (17 points) in the conference. Both teams are tied for fifth-place, with eight teams qualifying for the postseason playoffs.
Senior MICHAEL NIKIFOROV (Framingham, MA/Framingham) made eight saves in goal for the Falcons (his fourth shutout) to match Sullivan. The Greyhounds outshot the Falcons, 18-14, and had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Greyhounds complete their regular-season with road contests against conference rivals Stonehill (Wednesday) and Franklin Pierce (Saturday). Bentley is at Southern New Hampshire on TUESDAY at 7 p.m.
