WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior attack KEVIN KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) scored four goals and added two assists to lead Assumption College past Clark University, 13-7, in the non-conference opener for both teams Saturday the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Sophomore midfielder TOM GUIDO (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) and junior midfielder NICK VIOLANDI (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) added three goals each for the Greyhounds. Sophomore attack PHIL WINSLOW (North Providence, RI/Mt. St. Charles) and postgraduate SHAWN ROCHE (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) scored two goals each for the Cougars.
The Greyhounds will now go on the road as their next two games are in Arizona at Northern Arizona (Thursday) and Grand Canyon (Saturday).
The teams traded three goals in the first period as sophomore midfielder ALEJANDRO RUIZ (Dover, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) opened the scoring for the Hounds just 1:45 into the game on a brilliant individual effort. Winslow tied the game with 11:32 left in the period on a feed from senior attack GARRETT MC ADAM (Portland, ME/Portland).
Violandi and Guido gave the Greyhounds a two-goal advantage before senior midfielder CHRIS ADAMS (Bradford, NH/Kearsarge Regional) and McAdam with 1:47 left tied the game at 3-3.
The Greyhounds dominated the second period outscoring their crosstown rivals 7-1 as Klaskin scored a "natural" hat-trick in the middle. Winslow scored the lone Cougar goal.
Also scoring for the Greyhounds were sophomore midfielder JOHN RYAN (Greenville, RI/LaSalle Academy) and junior attack GAETANO GIAMBROCCO (Leominster, MA/Saint Bernard's). And, also scoring for Clark was sophomore midfielder CHRIS JOHNSON (Amherst, MA/Amherst).
Junior goalkeeper SCOTT VOGEL (Powell, OH/Olentangy Liberty) made nine saves for the Greyhounds, while sophomore keeper ANDREW DE VITO (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) had 12 for the Cougars. Assumption outshot Clark, 41-21.
