Ronson Quick (18 points) leads Greyhounds past St. Michael's

Assumption 77, Saint Michael's 60

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward RONSON QUICK (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored 18 point to lead four double-figure scorers as Assumption College won its second straight game, 77-60, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday at the Laska Gym.

Junior forward/captain MIKE BALDARELLI (Sutton, MA/Holy Name) (12 points, eight rebounds), senior guard/captain COURTLAND BLUFORD (Ft. Washington, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) (11 points, five rebounds, five assists) and sophomore forward TIM BEINERT (Floral Park, NY/Holy Cross) (10 points, five rebounds, four assists) played well in support roles for the Greyhounds. Assumption is now 9-9 overall and 6-7 in the conference.

Freshman guard TRAVIS WARECH (Pine Brook, NJ/Montville) (18 points, eight rebounds) and junior guard NATE BIRR (Burnsville, MN/Saint Thomas) (14 points) led Saint Michael's, now 8-9 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

The Greyhounds led 37-36 at the half however had a 31-22 advantage after sophomore guard KEVIN DONAHUE (Pawcatuck, CT/Stonington) drilled a three-pointer from the wing with 5:58 remaining. Saint Michael's outscored the Hounds 12-0 over the next three and half minutes assuming a 34-31 lead with 2:23 left n a Birr three-pointer.

Bluford scored on an offensive rebound and Quick on an inside move to give the Hounds a 35-34 lead with 1:04 left. Sophomore forward TYLER SCHILLING (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) and Bluford traded layups in the final 45 seconds to account for the 37-36 halftime score. While the Hounds shot a blistering .567 from the floor in the half (17-for-30), the Purple Knights cashed in seven three-pointers in 16 attempts.

After Knight sophomore guard QUA'RON PINCKNEY (Bronx, NY/Saint Benedict's) tied the game making one-of-two free throws, the Greyhounds went on a 15-3 run to move to a 52-40 advantage as Donahue drilled a long top-of the-circle three-pointer.

The Knights again cut back into the lead as sophomore guard CHRIS HURLEY (Watertown, MA/Boston College High) converted a steal and layin to make 62-58 with 6:15 remaining. Baldarelli then hit a jumper, Quick an inside move, Beinert four free throws to give the Hounds a then insurmountable 12-point lead (70-58) with just 2:46 left.

The Greyhounds are next in action Tuesday when they travel to conference rival Saint Anselm College for a 7:30 p.m. tapoff. Saint Michael's hosts American International also at 7:30 p.m.
