UMass Lowell defeats Greyhound men, 84-71, in NE-10 action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore guard KYLE CAIOLA (Parma, OH/Normandy) (23 points, six assists) and senior guard KEVIN CARR (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster) (22 points, four steals) combined to make 10-of-18 three pointers as the University of Massachusetts Lowell defeated Assumption College, 84 71, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Wednesday at the Laska Gym.
Carr made six-of-13 from behind the arc, while Caiola added four-of-five as the River Hawks improved to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
The Greyhounds, now 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference, had three double-figure scorers led by senior guard/captain COURTLAND BLUFORD (Ft. Washington, MD/Saint Vincent Pallotti) (16 points, four assists), sophomore guard KEVIN DONAHUE (Pawcatuck, CT/Stonington) (11 points) and sophomore forward/guard TIM BEINERT (Floral Park, NY/Holy Cross) (11 points, eight rebounds). Freshman point guard RYAN ROZSNAKI (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown, VA) chipped in with eight points and eight assists.
The River Hawks moved to a 45-34 halftime advantage led by Caiola's 15 points and three-for-three performance behind the arc.
A three-pointer by Carr with 15:19 left moved the lead to 16-points (57-41) before the Greyhounds mounted a comeback. Bluford's inside move with 9:59 left cut the gap to just four points (63-59).
Carr (five points) led a quick River Hawk rally as UMass Lowell moved it back to a 12-point advantage (75-63) with 4:06 left.
The Hounds are at conference rival Merrimack College Saturday and come home to face Stonehill Tuesday.
