WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore forwards PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin) and TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) each scored two goals leading Assumption College past S.U.N.Y.-Canton, 5-1, in the first round of the Assumption College Holiday Tournament at the Buffone Rink MONDAY night.

In the first game, freshman forward SCOTT HUDSON (St. Albert, Alberta) scored two goals to lead Manhattanville past Becker, 5-2. Manhattanville is now 9-4 overall, while Becker drops to 5-6-1.

The tournament continues Wednesday with Manhattanville playing Assumption at 4:35 p.m. and SUNY-Canton meeting Becker at 7:35 p.m. The Greyhounds have won five of their last seven games to even their record at 5-5, while SUNY Canton is now 10-9.

O'Kane, who now has 14-9--23 points, opened the scoring for the Greyhounds scoring what is considered to be the fastest goal at the start of a game in Assumption College history just 10 seconds off the opening faceoff. O'Kane now has 14-9--23 points to lead the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring. Larsen, who assisted on the goal, added two goals, two assists and now has 9-13--22 points as the second-leading scorer in the conference.

He made it 2-0 at 3:01 as linemates Larsen and junior PAT FITZGIBBONS (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) assisted on the power-play goal.

The teams traded goals in the second period as Roos freshman forward KRISTIAN DALEY (Canton, NY) scored on a cross pass from sophomore forward ROB LIGGIO (Canton, NY) at 13:49. The Hounds' Larsen scored from O'Kane and Fitzgibbons on the power play at 17:10 to regain the two goal advantage.

Fitzgibbons opened the third period with a goal on a feed from freshman forward JAIME VONA (West Seneca, NY/Saint Francis) at 3:49. Larsen finished the scoring as senior defenseman JON RETELLE (Monmouth, ME/Kents Hill) sent him in alone.

The Greyhounds outshot the Kangaroos, 35-27, and sophomore NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 26 saves in net to post his fifth win of the season. Junior JIMMY MERROW (Plainsboro, NJ) made 30 saves for the Kangaroos.
