Suffolk stops Assumption hockey in overtime thriller, 4-3

BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior forward PAUL WEISSER (Longmeadow, MA) scored with just 53 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Suffolk University past Assumption College, 4-3, in a non-conference ice hockey game SUNDAY at the Rink.

Sophomore forward PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin), the leading scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference, scored his second shorthanded goal of the game and 12th goal of the season, with 4:25 remaining in regulation enabling the visiting Greyhounds to pull to within one. They then took advantage of a extra-man opportunity (pulled the goalkeeper) in the closing minute of the third period to even matters as sophomore forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville/Worcester Academy) scored with just 21 seconds to play.

O'Kane opened the scoring in the first period with a shorthanded goal on a feed from Larsen at 8:00. Suffolk senior forward NICK DAVIS (Pittsburgh, PA) socred the equalizer on the power play at 10:59 on the power play from freshman forward MATT ROBERTSON (Whitman, MA).

Freshman forward JASON MOLLE Stoneham, MA/Lawrence Academy) scored his fourth goal of the season in the second period and freshman forward ANDREW FLYNN (Stamford, CT/Berkshire School) added his third at 12:01 of the third period as the host Rams moved to a 3-1 advantage.

Junior goalkeeper RYAN MULA (Waltham, MA) picked up the win with 37 saves for Suffolk, while sophomore NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 25 stops in net for the Hound. Assumption outshot the Rams, 40-29.

Assumption hosts SUNY-Canton in opening-round play of the Assumption Holiday Tournament Monday, December 28 at the Buffone Rink at 7:35 p.m.
