O'Kane goal ties S.N.H.U. for Ice Dogs in Northeast-10 hockey

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin), the Northeast-10 Conference leading scorer, scored the game tying goal midway through the third period as Assumption College earned a 4-4 overtime tie with Southern New Hampshire University Saturday at the Buffone Rink.

O'Kane rifled his 22nd goal of the season to tie the game with assists going to sophomore forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) and junior forward PAT FITZGIBBONS (Worcester, MA/Saint John's).

Greyhound freshman forward KEVEN MEEHAN (Melrose, MA/Austin Prep) scored his sixth goal of the season from sophomore defenseman KEVIN GLANZMAN (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) on the power-play at 16:28 of the second period to bring it back to a one-goal game.

The teams traded goals in the first period as senior defenseman JON RETELLE (Monmouth, ME/Kents Hill School) scored for the Greyhounds at 10:10 and matched just four minutes later by Penmen junior forward TROY MAYBURY (South Portland, ME/Bridgton).

Southern New Hampshire moved to a 4-3 advantage after two periods as the two team skated to a five-goal total in the middle period.

O'Kane started the surge with his 21st goal and league-leading fourth shorthanded goal from junior defenseman MATT SCIOLI (North Reading, MA/North Reading) and Larsen at 3:11.

The Penmen then scored three unanswered goals as sophomore defenseman FRANK O'CONNOR (Arlington, MA/South Kent) scored his first two goals of the season, the first on the power play, to put S.N.H.U. ahead, 3-2. Penmen sophomore forward DOUG BOULANGER (So., Beaumont, Quebec) made it a two-goal game before Meehan brought the Greyhounds closer on the power play.

Greyhounds sophomore goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 45 saves as the Penmen outshot the home team, 49-33. Southern New Hampshire freshman goalkeeper MIKE MASTRACCI (Pittsburgh, PA) made 29 saves for the Penmen.

The Greyhounds are next in action Tuesday at Western New England. Face off is at 7:25 p.m. at the Smead Area.
