O'Kane scores two goals as Ice Dogs defeat S.N.H.U. to remain in first place in Northeast-10 Conference

HOOKSETT, NH --- Sophomore right wing PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin/Williston-Northampton) scored his second goal of the game at 13:58 of the third period as Assumption College defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey SATURDAY at The Ice Den.
The win improved the Greyhounds record to 2-3 overall and 2-0 atop the conference standings. Southern New Hampshire is now 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
O'Kane opened the scoring for the Greyhounds with a power-play goal at 2:17 of the first period. Sophomore center TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone/Worcester Academy) and sophomore defenseman KEVIN GLANZMAN (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) assisted on the play.
The Hounds struck again at 6:29 of the second period as freshman left wing KEVEN MEEHAN (Melrose, MA/Austin Prep/Tilton School) scored on a nice feed from freshman forward DAVE MAIOCCO (Medford, MA/Arlington Catholic) to make it 2-0.
Southern New Hampshire however came-to-life with a pair of goals at 10:21 by sophomore forward BRANDON BRADLEY (Wichita, KS) as junior forward TROY MAYBURY (South Portland, ME/Bridgton Academy) and junior forward BOB BRYANT (Nashua, NH) assisted and at 13:52 on the power play as Maybury scored from senior defenseman KENT HONEYMAN (Marietta, GA/Cushing Academy) and sophomore defenseman FRANK O'CONNOR (Arlington, MA/South Kent School).
The Greyhounds took a 3-2 lead into the third period as junior left wing PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) scored from Larsen and O'Kane 38 seconds later at 14:30.
The Penmen tied the game on the power-play as junior forward ANDREW HILDRETH (Leominster, MA) scored from Bryant and Maybury at 10:33. O'Kane scored the game-winner on a feed from Fitzgibbons 3:25 later.
Sophomore goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 20 saves to notch the victory, while NICK MASTRACCI (Pittsburgh, PA) had 22 saves for Southern New Hampshire. Assumption outshot the Penmen, 26-23.
The Greyhounds host Saint Michael's College in another Northeast-10 Conference game TUESDAY at the Buffone Rink. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Southern New Hampshire also returns to action TUESDAY as they travel to Suffolk University for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
