Blanchette backbones Ice Dogs win over Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --- Sophomore goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 30 saves as Assumption College defeated Framingham State, 6-1, in a non-conference ice hockey game Thursday at the Loring Arena.

The Greyhounds are now 6-6 overall, while the Rams fall to 1-9-1.

Junior defenseman MARC LABB (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) opened the scoring for the Hounds converting a pass from freshman left wing DAVE MAIOCCO (Medford, MA/Arlington Catholic) at 10:22 of the first period. Sophomore center TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) would score the eventual game-winner, his 10th goal of the season, on the power play at 16:22 of the first period. Junior forward ADAM GAUDREAU (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) and freshman forward JAIME VONA (West Seneca, NY/Saint Francis) assisted on the play.

The Greyhounds would add two insurance goals in the second period as junior defender MATT SCIOLI (North Reading, MA/North Reading) scored his first goal of the season at 11:12 with junior center JOSH BOISONNEAU (Bedford, NH/Trinity) and freshman right wing CAM MAILLET (Leominster, MA/Worcester Academy) assisting. Gaudreau scored his fourth goal of the season at 17:07 as Vona and freshman left wing KEVEN MEEHAN (Melrose, MA/Austin Prep) assisted.

The Rams got on the scoreboard as senior forward BRETT CASAVANT (Gardner, MA) scored on the power play at 8:06. Senior forward JASON ANDERSON (Arden Hills, MN) and junior defender BLAIR NICKERSON (Beverly, MA) assisted on the goal. Two minutes later, sophomore right wing PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored a power play goal to put the Greyhounds back up by four and junior left wing PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) added a late goal. O'Kane's goal was his Northeast-10 Conference league leading 15th of the season.

Blanchette improved his overall record to 6-3 with the victory, while Framingham State junior TERENCE SULLIVAN (Shirley, MA) made 18 saves for the Rams. Framingham State outshot the Greyhounds, 31-24.

The Greyhounds are at Becker College Saturday at 8:30 p.m., while Framingham State clashes with Westfield State Thursday (January 14) at 7:35 p.m.
