Blanchette, Larsen backbone hockey win over Franklin Pierce

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 37 saves and the Greyhounds converted two power play goals en route to a 3-2 Northeast 10 Conference ice hockey win over Franklin Pierce University SATURDAY at the Buffone Rink.

The Greyhounds are now 4-4-0 overall and 4-1 in conference games and remain in first place. Franklin Pierce is now 3-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the first period converting their only power play opportunity. Sophomore forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville/Worcester Academy) scored his fifth goal of the season at 8:09. Junior forward PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Worcester, MA/Saint John???????s) and freshman forward JAIME VONA (West Seneca, NY/Saint Francis) assisted on the play.

They made it 2-0 in the second period as senior defenseman JON RETELLE (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth) scored his second goal of the season, also on the power play at 7:30. Junior forward ADAM GAUDREAU (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) and senior forward JAMES CAPULLI (Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton) assisted on the play.

The Ravens made things interesting in the third period as freshman forwards ROSCOE SWEENEY (Falmouth, MA) and JONATHAN SCHANKE (Wallingford, CT) scored even goals. Larsen scored his second goal of the game in between which proved to be the game-winner.

The Greyhounds are next in action SUNDAY when they travel to Suffolk University for a non-conference game.
