Hounds fall to Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference action

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Junior forward PAUL SNELL (Groton, MA) scored a team-high four points (1-3--4) and junior forward COLEMAN NOONAN (Norfolk, MA/Catholic Memorial), freshman forward MIKE RICHARD (Derry, NH) and freshman forward BRYAN LUTHER (Scituate, MA) each had three points as Saint Anselm College defeated Assumption College, 11-2, in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action last night at the Sullivan Arena.
The Greyhounds are now 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference, losing for the first time in four outings. Saint Anselm improves to 2-1 and 1-0. The Hawks scored an amazing four shorthanded and five power-play goals in the game
The Greyhounds lone bright spots included a shorthanded goal by sophomore right wing PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin) in the second period and a power play effort by senior captain JON RETELLE (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth/Kents Hill), his first goal of the season, in the third period.
The Hawks broke in front 4-0 after one period with two power-play goals and a pair of shorthanded goals.
Luther opened the scoring with a power play goal just 2:57 into the period taking feeds from freshman defenseman EVAN GOGONIS (Northboro, MA) and Snell and Richard scored the other man-up goal with 2:06 left in the period. In between junior forward RYAN BUTLER (Arlington, MA/Avon Old Farms) and Snell scored shorthanded.
O'Kane got the Greyhounds on the board in the second period at 2:19 on a feed from sophomore center TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville/Worcester Academy). It was O'Kane's league-leading 10th goal of the season.
Junior left wing PETER BOUCHIE (Belmont, MA/Belmont/Hoosac School) assisted on the Retelle power-play goals in the third period.
The Greyhounds utilized three goaltenders in the contest, sophomore NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, Fl/Worcester, MA) (16 saves), sophomore STEVE DI DOMENICO (Lowell, MA/Lowell/Tilton School) (21 saves) and senior JAMIE DI GIULIO (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick/Tilton School) (6 saves). junior ALEX WYSE (Amherst, NY) started for the Hawks and made 22 saves in 47:25, while freshman COREY COTNOIR (Bow, NH) made two saves over the final 12:35. Saint Anselm outshot the Greyhounds, 54-26.
The Greyhounds are next in action in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Franklin Pierce SATURDAY at the Buffone Rink at 4:35 p.m. Saint Anselm hosts Connecticut College Friday at 7 p.m. and Tufts University Saturday at 3 p.m.
