Michael Hughes named men's tennis coach

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Michael Hughes of Natick, MA, a former standout player at Boston College, has been named head men's tennis coach at Assumption College.

Hughes replaces Luca DiFilippo, who coached the Greyhounds to the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals last season in his only year with the team.

Hughes was a major factor as Boston College won the Big East team championship in 1988, 89 and 90. He was a member of the 1990 Big East doubles team champions.

Previously he attended the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy (Bradenton, FL) and also served with the USTA/NETUA Professional Line Umpires Association.

He played on the ATP satellite tennis tour from 1991-93 and achieved competitive world rankings in both singles and doubles. He also served as a practice partner to Monica Seles. He has been a teacher/professional at the Colony Tennis Resort (Longboat Key, FL), the Brant Point Racquet Club (Nantucket, MA), and the Tri-Valley Tennis Club (Ashland, MA).
