Greyhound field hockey falls to No. 5 ranked UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference action

LOWELL, Mass. --- The University of Massachusetts Lowell, the fifth ranked team in the nation, defeated Assumption College, 6-1, in Northeast 10 Conference field hockey action at Cushing Field SATURDAY.

The River Hawks improved their record to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-7 and 1-3.

Junior forwards KATIE ENAIRE (Amesbury, MA/Amesbury) and SAMMY MACY (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) each had a goal and an assist, while junior midfielder LIZ DAY (North Andover, MA/North Andover) assisted on a pair of goals.

The game was scoreless until Enaire opened scoring in the 23rd minute of play (22:21) after she found a pass from sophomore forward ABBY AULD (Waltham, MA/Waltham) in a crowded offensive circle.

Assumption quickly retaliated with a goal by junior forward BRITTANY BOYLE (Grafton, MA/Grafton) at 28:22.

Five minutes later, UMass Lowell took a lead it would not relinquish after LIZZY ALES (Arlington, MA/Catholic) scored her sixth goal of the season.

UMass Lowell outshot Assumption 29-8 and held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

Junior goalkeeper KATE HICKEY (Medway, MA/Medway) earned her third win for her play in the first half, stopping two of the three shots she faced. Freshman AMY CARBON (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) made a save in the first half during the Greyhounds??????? penalty stroke opportunity at 9:41 and went on to have a shutout second half.

Greyhounds junior goalie DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made nine saves.

The Greyhounds are next in action SUNDAY when they host Limestone, SC College. The River Hawks return to action SATURDAY when at Southern Connecticut at 1 p.m.
