Stonehill field hockey stops Greyhounds, 4-0, in non-conference game

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior forward CLAIRE HOURIHAN (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) scored two goals and junior goalkeeper COURTNEY OSIER (South Dennis, MA/Dennis Yarmouth) posted the shutout as Stonehill College defeated Assumption College, 4-0, with a four-goal barrage in the second half in non-conference field hockey action TUESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The win, the third straight for the Skyhawks, improved their overall record to 3-2. The Greyhounds fell to 1-3 overall. The game was not a conference game---that game will be played October 15 at Stonehill College.

Hourihan opened the scoring at 35:53 after a scoreless first half on a nice feed from sophomore forward KATHRYN NELSON (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury). Less than two minutes later Nelson made it 2-0 and senior midfielder JACKIE LADINO (North Darmouth, MA/Dartmouth) assisted.

The Skyhawks got insurance goals from Hourihan at 48:30 and sophomore forward CAITLIN O???KEEFE (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) at 62:31 to account for the final.

Stonehill owned a 16-1 advantage in shots and a substantial 16-2 edge in penalty corners. Osier did not make a save for Stonehill, while the Greyhounds junior keeper DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made seven.

Stonehill hosts Massachusetts Lowell THURSDAY at 7 p.m., while the Greyhounds are at American International THURSDAY at 4 p.m.
