Stonehill defeats Hounds field hockey, 2-1, in NE-10 action

EASTON, Mass. --- Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, did all its scoring in the opening eight minutes en route to a 2-1 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's field hockey action at W.B. Mason Stadium THURSDAY night.
Senior forward CLAIRE HOURIHAN (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) had a goal and assist---running her goal-scoring streak to nine games. Sophomore KATHRYAN NELSON (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) also scored a goal for the Skyhawks who extended their win streak to three and have now won 13 of their last 14.
Freshman BRITT ALLEN (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) scored for the Greyhounds, while junior goalkeeper DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) finished with nine saves---eight in the second half. Junior COURTNEY OSIER (South Dennis, MA/Dennis Yarmouth) made one save for Stonehill who finished with a 19-4 advantage in shots for the game---including a 13-3 edge in the second half.
Assumption was able to cut its deficit in half in the second half. Allen put the Greyhounds right back in the game with her first collegiate goal off a pass from senior defneder MICHELLE PASQUALE (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) following a corner at 50:42.
Stonehill is now 13-3 overaall and 7-1 in the conference, while the Greyhounds are 3-13 and 1-7.
The Greyhounds host Saint Michael's College in its final home game SATURDAY at 3 p.m. Stonehill visits L.I.U.-C.W. Post SATURDAY for a non-conference game at 12 noon.
