WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior midfielder KATE HIGGINS (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) scored the deciding goal in penalty strokes as Saint Michael's College defeated Assumption College, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference womens field hockey action SATURDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The teams battled to a 2-2 deadlock after regulation and two overtime periods.
Saint Michael's moved to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Senior midfielder KAITLIN KOFFINK (Goffstown, NH/Goffstown Area) scored off a deflection from junior forward NATALIE ELVIDGE (Newton, NJ/Newton) at 15:17 and sophomore forward JENNY BOUDROW (Dedham, MA/Dedham) tallied at 33:11 in a flurry in front of the net. Junior midfielder KALEIGH FERRARI (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook School) assisted on the play.
The Greyhounds dominated the second half and tied the game on a goal by senior forward SARAH RANIERI (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) from sophomore midfielder MEG DOW (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater) at 56:38.
Senior midfielder ASHLEY RIVARD (Winchendon, MA/Murdock) scored the first goal off a penalty corner from senior forward HILLARY ZYSK (Walpole, MA/Walpole) at 40:57.
Junior goalkeeper DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made 10 saves for the Greyhounds, while sophomore JACKIE STACEY (West Windsor, VT/Woodstock Union) made seven saves for Saint Michael's.
The Purple Knights outshot the Greyhounds, 19-18, while Assumption had a 12-8 edge in penalty corners.
The Greyhounds complete their season at Adelphi University WEDNESDAY at 4 p.m. Saint Michael's is at American International WEDNESDAY at 6 p.m.
