Southern Connecticut defeats Greyhound field hockey in Northeast-10 Conference action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior midfielder KELLYANNE MC CAFFERTY (Durham, NH/Oyster River) scored three goals and assisted on another as Southern Connecticut State University defeated Assumption College, 7-2, in a Northeast-10 Conference women's field hockey game WEDNESDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

McCafferty opened the scoring for the Owls just 7:18 into the first half scoring on an assist from sophomore midfielder BRITTANY BARRA (Goshen, CT/Wamogo).

The Owls then scored two goals in 3:19 to move to a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Junior defender DIENY CHARLOT (Deep River, CT/Valley Regional) scored on a along strike to the right side of the net at 10:28. Junior midfielder ANN BERRY (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) and senior forward LAUREN KERN (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) assisted on the play.

Sophomore forward RYAN MORGAN (Somers, CT/Stafford) from McCafferty made it 3-0 at 13:47.

The Owls would extend their advantage to 6-0 before the Greyhounds struck twice.

Senior forward SARAH RANIERI (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) scored in a flurry in front of the net with sophomore midfielder MEG DOW (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater) assisted on the goal at 44:07.

Sophomore forward CATIE LOPES (Needham, MA/Needham) scored off a richochet at 58:41 with senior forward HILLARY ZYSK (Walpole, MA/Walpole) and sophomore midfielder AMANDA WHALEY (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) credited with assists on the play.

Southern Connecticut outshot the Greyhounds 15-10 and owned a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.

The Greyhounds are next in action SUNDAY when the host American International College at 1 p.m. The team will honor its seniors before the game.
